Why latency budgets matter in console trainers

Training consoles often tempt integrators to tighten feedback loops for a snappier demo. In naval targeting rehearsal, that kindness becomes a liability: watchstanders begin to anticipate confirmations that will not exist at sea.

We bench each trainer against recorded shipboard traces so visual and tactile cues land in the same order, if not the same millisecond, as documented operations. Where hardware cannot match, we document the delta in instructor notes.

Instructors should call out the delta explicitly during briefs rather than letting crews discover it under stress. Finally, when networks are upgraded, latency profiles must be revalidated; a faster switch fabric is not automatically a better training outcome.
